Pastern dermatitis
EQUUS CLEANSE WOUND +
is an ideal choice for managing equine scratches (pastern dermatitis) due to its potent antimicrobial properties and gentle impact on healing tissue. Because EQUUS CLEANSE breaks down bacteria and fungi on contact without burning or stinging, high-frequency application during the active phase is key to clearing the infection.
Active Phase (3–4 Times Daily)
Clean Gentle: Gently rinse or clean the lower leg with clear water or an Equus Cleanse spray. Avoid scrub brushes or harsh antibacterial soaps, as aggressive scrubbing causes micro-tears that worsen skin inflammation and driver deeper infection.
Saturate the Area: Spray EQUUS CLEANSE directly onto the affected pastern until completely wet. Ensure the liquid penetrates through the hair and down to the skin level.
Leave Crusts Intact: Do not force or pick off tight scabs; let Equus Cleanse soften them naturally. Removing scabs prematurely causes pain, bleeding, and open pathways for opportunistic pathogens.
Air Dry: Allow the EQUUS CLEANSE to dry naturally. Do not wipe it off, as its active antimicrobial action continues while wet.
Maintenance & Prevention (1–2 Times Daily)
EQUUS CLEANSE
Daily Barrier Spray: Once the active inflammation, heat, and scabs clear, drop down to spraying the pasterns 1–2 times daily before turn-out or after working in damp arenas.
Target Moisture: Apply around the heels and pastern joints where skin folds trap moisture and debris.
